Jack Anderson, Woodworker

After more than 40 years creating furniture, cabinets and houses, Jack Anderson, woodworker from Georgia, now specializes in hand carved large bowls from fallen trees.  Inspired by wood bowl turner Ed Moulthroup, Jack seeks to reveal the beauty that already exists in the wood.

He also carves one-of-a-kind pieces (other than bowls) out of wood that is considered a scourge by most all woodworkers. That wood is “fat lighter pine”, which is from the root and lower sections of fallen pine trees.

Jack Anderson

I have been a woodworker – furniture, cabinets, houses, and art pieces – professionally for 45 years.  Currently, I specialize in large, hand carved bowls from fallen trees.

This was inspired by a twenty year repair and remodeling project at the home studio of a famous wooden bowl turner named Ed Moulthroup. He taught me many things and foremost was to simply reveal beauty that already existed. My bowl work now is an attempt to do that as he did, except to carve out instead of turn.

I continue to develop new tools and techniques in my work. I try to show how domestic woods have as much or more character and beauty of any exotic types.

I also do one-of-a-kind pieces (other than bowls) out of wood that is considered a scourge by most all woodworkers. That wood is “fat lighter pine”, which is from the root and lower sections of dead pine trees.

I appreciate greatly being accepted into the Guild and in company of so many skilled and dedicated artists-craftspeople.
