Artist Demonstrations
On-site artist demonstrations at our Annual Fine Designer Crafts Show in Raleigh, North Carolina are an entertaining view of the processes that artists use in creating their fine craft. Special thanks to the artists below who shared their time and talents with us at last year’s show. Stay tuned for the announcement of the artists who will demonstrate Nov. 6 – 8, 2015 at our 46th Annual Show in downtown Raleigh!

Artist Demonstration by Roy Underhill
When You Come to a Fork in the Wood – Take It!
Roy Underhill, host of the PBS series The Woodwright’s Shop and founder of The Woodwright’s School in Pittsboro, North Carolina, explored how the deep structure of nature shapes our built environment. (Actually, he’s just going to bring a log and start whacking on it with an axe!)
In the grain of the wood Roy finds the paradox of both the strength and the weakness of the material, shaping both how we work wood and what we make with it. May the Grain be with you!
Sunday
Artist Demonstration by Janet Harriman
Jeweler Janet Harriman will demonstrate folding and forming flat sheet metal into a hammered sculptural ring or bracelet. Janet has been making jewelry and winning awards for 35 years. Last year she taught a five day workshop for the Florida Society of Goldsmiths at Wildacres. Janet’s state-of-the-art techniques with PMC and BRONZclay have been nationally recognized and included in three “PMC Guild Annual Exceptional Work in Metal Clay” books and “Contemporary Metal Clay Rings” by Hattie Sanderson.
Artist Demonstration by Ginger Meek Allen
Metalsmith and custom studio jeweler Ginger Meek Allen will discuss the narrative power of jewelry, share stories of how her clients have used her work to honor their lives and demonstrate the assembly of a contemporary custom locket.
Artist Demonstration by Ben Dyer
Designer goldsmith Ben Dyer will share bench tips he’s mastered over his 39-year career as a studio jeweler. His jewelry incorporates direct metals techniques such as cold forging, hand forming, texturing and gold soldering with a detailed and meticulous finish. For Ben, a successful design suggests motion, reveals unique aspects from different angles and expresses elegance and grace in asymmetry.
