ARTIST DEMONSTRATIONS
On-site artist demonstrations and presentations at our annual Carolina Artisan Craft Market in Raleigh, North Carolina are an entertaining view of the processes that artists use in creating their fine craft. The Beauty of the Longleaf Pine: Pine Needle Basketry
Melanie will demonstrate the centuries-old green craft of longleaf pine needle basketry and explore its beginnings in Native America. She will also show images of her work and explain the various natural materials used and how each was created.

Woodworker and Instrument Maker Archie Smith
The Making of Musical Instruments: A Unique Melding of Arts
In the tradition and spirit of Old World Craftsmen, Archie scouts sources and acquires the varied and specific materials to make his well known bowed psalteries and dulcimers. Archie will share his techniques for making these “things of beauty,” a combination of his love of art and music that has fueled his passion for almost 40 years.

Jeweler Janet Harriman
Hammered Sculptural Jewelry
Janet will take you on an intuitive journey folding and forming flat sheet metal into a hammered sculptural ring or bracelet. Her state-of-the-art techniques with Precious Metal Clay and BRONZclay have been nationally recognized. Janet has been making jewelry and winning awards for over 35 years.

Fiber Artist Liz Spear
Working Collaboratively for Fun, Profit and Inspiration
Since 2000, the incorporation of fiber artist friends’ fabrics and surface design techniques into her functional, one-of-a-kind, handwoven garments has provided Liz with inspiration and a deeper understanding of her craft.
Her presentation and discussion highlights how others’ choices in technique, color and texture opens up a section of the creative brain otherwise only lightly exercised.

Sculpting Clay Fish
Experiences in and around water strongly influenced Alan’s clay fish designs; his work is about form, expression, color, texture and movement. During this demo, Alan will take requests from attendees and create beautiful clay fish right before your very eyes!
