Claire Jacobs, Jeweler

Claire Jacobs, Jeweler in Raleigh, North Carolina, creates hand-fabricated forms from sheet metal, primarily sterling sliver and 22k gold bi-metal.  Referencing both historical jewelry forms and the simplicity of clean, modern design, each piece explores pattern and color juxtapositions.

Whether earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rings, Claire enjoys combining small, repetitive components and visual motifs to create a larger finished piece.

Claire Jacobs

Claire Jacobs discovered a passion for art at a young age through drawing and painting. Continuing this interest at the collegiate level, Claire studied art at Clemson University, obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking.

Later, Claire attended the Penland School of Crafts in Mitchell County North Carolina to learn the art of metalsmithing for jewelry. While attending Penland, she discovered her talent for making metal jewelry and became intrigued with how jewelry could communicate aspects of a person’s identity and viewpoint. Shortly after, early in 2008, Claire founded her studio Emily Claire in Raleigh, North Carolina.

For years Claire worked a full-time sales job, while spending all her free time in her studio developing her unique handmade jewelry collection.  In 2014, Claire devoted herself entirely to Emily Claire and resigned from her full-time job.  To mark the occasion she traveled to Florence, Italy, to complete a four-week intensive course study at Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School.  She returned with new skills and new inspirations, propelling her forward into life as a full-time studio jeweler.
