The Laurel Award  –
for Perpetuation of Design Mastery & Mentorship

In 2015 the CDCG Board of Directors created The Laurel award to encourage professional fine craft artists to advance their craft discipline through the tradition of sharing knowledge and skills.

The Laurel for Perpetuation of Design Mastery & Mentorship is awarded biennially to a fine craft artist who has demonstrated distinction, creativity and design forward vision while educating others to enliven and inspire in his or her craft discipline.

The criteria for The Laurel award begins with an individual fine craft artist who has:

  • Demonstrated distinction, creativity and design forward vision in his/her craft discipline
  • Exercised a minimum of 10 years making a living as a career craft artist
  • Demonstrated a proven track record of educating others to enliven and inspire within his/her discipline
  • Been exceptionally supportive and had positive impact upon artists living and working in North Carolina
  • Achieved broader recognition through publication or membership in a trade organization related to his/her craft

CDCG welcomes nominations from all fine craft supporters, as well as CDCG Exhibiting Artist members in good standing. Nominations are submitted electronically by June 1 for consideration:  The Laurel Award Nomination Form

Laurel Award inaugural recipient Mary Ann Scherr for design mastery and mentorship.

CDCG presented the inaugural Laurel to Mary Ann Scherr in commemoration of her seven decades of design innovation, commitment to education, ongoing fine jewelry fabrication and legacy of fine craft excellence.
