Jim Fineman is a potter in Manteo, North Carolina. In his studio Jim creates a variety of functional work from stoneware, a high fired clay known for strength and durability. Among his table- and service ware pieces are bowls, plates, mugs, tumblers, colanders, pitchers, wine coolers, spoon rests, pour bottles, and salt shakers. Jars, honey pots, sauceboats, cheese shakers, crocks, jugs and decanters are also made. Additional functional pieces include lamps, planters, vases, candle lanterns, votives, flower pots, oil lamps, candleholders, mirror frames, soap dishes, hanging lamps, fountains, ornaments and clocks. Jim’s glazing ranges from earth tones to rich blues and greens.
Jim also weaves baskets with reed and sea grass. Onion and garlic baskets are the specialty, with larger forms – egg and potato baskets – produced occasionally. Find Jim’s work at KDH Cooperative Gallery in Kill Devil Hills, NC and at Roanoke Heritage Extended in downtown Manteo, NC.
