I took my first weaving class at the Arts and Crafts Association shortly after moving to Winston-Salem, NC, in 1978. I took my first weaving class at the Arts and Crafts Association shortly after moving to Winston-Salem, NC, in 1978. My instructor was inspiring, and newfound friends were as intrigued with the art form as I. After several years of classes, workshops, experimentation, and an invaluable apprenticeship, I narrowed my focus to the creation of mixed fiber textured fabrics.

My hand-woven throws, wraps and scarves are made unique by the myriad of fibers used, including lofty mohair, soft Persian wool, cotton, silk, linen and rayon. Rayon ribbon adds sheen and Italian eyelash adds texture. To coordinate with my throws, I weave pillow covers, which are often finished with raw silk piping.

I share my studio -- located in the Arts District in downtown Winston-Salem -- with four other textile artists. Fiber Company provides a sales venue for our work, as well as that of about fifty other artists whom we represent. My personal studio space houses three looms, which I use alternately depending on the width of fabric or weave structure desired.

I occasionally enjoy a break from my fuzzy fabrics by designing dye-painted cotton blankets. Using an alternative style is an escape from production work, and offers my customers a wider selection.
