Doug Dacey, Porcelain Artist

Doug Dacey, Porcelain Artist, has designed and created a unique line of fine sculptural and functional porcelain that is both pleasing to the eye and pleasant to use for more than 30 years.  Working in his Green Creek Pottery studio in Columbus, NC, he is inspired by colors and patterns from natural formations.  Both form and texture from nature are used in bowls, vases, platters, covered jars and teapots, as well as in the more elaborate sculpted pieces.

Doug Dacey

In 1980, after completing a Masters degree from the University of South Carolina, my wife Karen, young son Brian and I moved to the countryside in the Tryon area of North Carolina. We settled into an old farmhouse and began what came to be known as Green Creek Pottery. Later joined by our daughter Callan, the family and business grew. Over the years I have strived to produce a unique line of fine sculptural and functional porcelain that is both pleasing to the eye and pleasant to use.

I tend to use colors and patterns from natural formations as my inspiration for both form and texture in the functional pottery and in the more elaborate sculpted pieces.

My sculptural forms are assembled from thrown segments that are layered over or into various forms to produce a surface that alludes to naturally occurring textures.  My functional pottery includes bowls, vases, platters, covered jars, mugs, cups and teapots.
