I often begin a piece inspired by something unusual in Nature-- the shape or texture of a leaf, the color of a flower, or by lines and shapes made by a pile of driftwood.  This is the beginning of my design process in which color, line, and texture are paramount. I often work spontaneously on the surface of the fabric, painting, fusing, piecing, couching yarns, machine appliqueing, and machine quilting. I love to explore new materials and techniques with each piece. I make subjects appear less realistic by using unusual colors, and culling only the most interesting lines and shapes. As co...

I often begin a piece inspired by something unusual in Nature-- the shape or texture of a leaf, the color of a flower, or by lines and shapes made by a pile of driftwood.  This is the beginning of my design process in which color, line, and texture are paramount. I often work spontaneously on the surface of the fabric, painting, fusing, piecing, couching yarns, machine appliqueing, and machine quilting. I love to explore new materials and techniques with each piece. I make subjects appear less realistic by using unusual colors, and culling only the most interesting lines and shapes. As construction progresses, I derive great satisfaction from trying new solutions to each design problem as it arises. I am happiest when surrounded by a pile of multi-colored threads and fabric, and answering the question, "I wonder which one would look the best here?"
